About me

Although I grew up on a farm in south eastern Ontario, Canada, I now reside in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have always been interested in making some form of art. During my life's journey, I have passed through many art making phases. My first attempt at creativity was drawing and doodling in the margins of my school textbooks.

My husband was in the military so we moved around Canada a lot. I took advantage of this by studying art in various locations such St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario, and the University of Victoria's Distant Learning Programs in Comox, British Columbia.

At these two facilities I focused on drawing and printmaking. Later on I dabbled in oils and acrylics. In the mid-80s I was mentored in watercolour painting by the late Merle Bonnick of Comox, British Columbia. After this I honed my knowledge of watercolour painting by constant study, research and teaching. Watercolour painting became my passion.

I don't profess to know all there is about watercolour but I have shared what I know for over two decades by giving lessons at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, at workshops, and in semi-private lessons.

In 1993 I started a newsletter for water media painters entitled, the Watercolour Gazette, which continue until the Fall of 2013. Then about seven years ago I heard about Artist Trading Cards and visual art journaling.  More fun stuff to explore!

I'm not sure where this blog will lead me because it too is a learning experience. Needless to say, I am never bored! How can one be when there is so much to discover in the world of making art? My only thought is, "I wonder what's coming next?"
